SKODA Octavia Awarded ‘Design of the Year’ in Czech Republic

The 'AutoDesign Awards' are presented by the magazine 'AutoDesign&Styling'. The 20 member jury consists of designers, journalists and other design professionals. 2013 sees the sixth round of the ‘AutoDesign Awards’ with a ŠKODA model winning for the first time.
The experts were won over by the elegant design of the new ŠKODA Octavia. They were impressed with the fresh, clear style elements, the balance and the effective interaction of formal elegance and sporty dynamics. The high functionality and technological innovations of the completely redesigned model also impressed the jury who commented that the ŠKODA Octavia would not look out of place when compared to vehicles of a much higher-class.
“The victory at the ‘AutoDesign Awards’ is a great honour for the new ŠKODA Octavia and a reward for the hard work of our whole team from development, design and production”, says Dr. Frank Welsch, Board Member for technical development at ŠKODA AUTO. He continues, “The new ŠKODA Octavia is in ‘a class of its own’ in every respect. With its distinctive appearance, the new Octavia places a big exclamation mark in its segment: confident with perfect proportions, the highest precision, clean lines and sharp edges – this car epitomises the new design language of the Brand”.
ŠKODA Chief designer, Jozef Kaban and his team have redesigned the Octavia from head to toe. Never before has an Octavia been so high-profile and confident on the road as the third generation. Abandoning decorative elements also contributes, he continues, “In focusing on the essentials, we have given the Octavia a new quality. The new ŠKODA Octavia is a unique face in the automobile crowd and in a few years it will still be a top figure, as the design is timeless”. This is represented in the confident front end, the coupé-style side lines as well as the neat rear.
Besides the design, the new Octavia boasts space, functionality, innovative safety and comfort systems, fuel efficiency and numerous “Simply Clever” ideas, all at an exceptional price/value ratio. The new ŠKODA Octavia has grown 90 mm in length and 45 mm in width in comparison with its predecessor. The model really offers a fantastic amount of room and features the largest boot, the longest interior and the most amount of legroom for rear passengers in its segment.
The ŠKODA Octavia was successfully introduced in the Czech Republic in the beginning of February. The new sedan will be on display for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show.
With the launch of the next generation Octavia, it’s full steam ahead for ŠKODA with the largest model campaign in the company’s history. By 2015, the car manufacturer will have introduced an average of one new or revised model every six months. The aim is to increase the number of worldwide vehicle sales to at least 1.5 million per year. The new ŠKODA Octavia is a corner stone of this growth strategy.
